Mardi Gras 2024

Every year for Mardi Gras, we head down to the French Quarter in the morning for coffee and beignets at Cafe' du Monde, then to the square in front of the St. Louis Cathedral where groups of costumers meet and begin their walking revelry throughout the quarter and Marigny. After witnessing this tradition, we walk to Canal St. for a glimpse of the Zulu Parade, then to Bourbon St. to view an assortment of costumes and frivolity.

If we are lucky, we visit with the Sigles on Royal St. and watch from above on the balcony. Here is a sampling of the photographs from 2024...

2021

Where have all the bloggers gone?  I thought blogging went the way of MySpace and no one uses it anymore.   Then I came across a couple of blogs and wondered if mine still existed. It does. Even if no one reads this, I have another way to preserve adventures of my life to look back on.  The changes in life are constant and to be able to look back and reminisce about how life used to be.

I hope to blog more about our travels with work and family life. But now I have to get back to work.

Horse Pens 40 in Steele, Alabama is well known throughout the bouldering community. My first "official" bouldering trip was this past weekend, so I went with an open mind. Family trip, open schedule, great weather. Expecting the place to be overwhelmed with visitors for the holiday weekend, I was surprised the place was almost empty. Of course there's something to be said about having the place to yourselves. It was peaceful, no waiting for routes to climb,  no one crowding the views.
Ok, so bouldering is basically climbing boulders without using ropes or climbing gear. The only safety net is a crash pad at the base of the boulder and your partner to spot you when you get a bit higher. Other equipment is a good pair of climbing shoes and chalk so your hands don't get sweaty and slippery. Bandaids for your fingers might be useful, too.
