Horse Pens 40 in Steele, Alabama is well known throughout the bouldering community. My first "official" bouldering trip was this past weekend, so I went with an open mind. Family trip, open schedule, great weather. Expecting the place to be overwhelmed with visitors for the holiday weekend, I was surprised the place was almost empty. Of course there's something to be said about having the place to yourselves. It was peaceful, no waiting for routes to climb, no one crowding the views.
Ok, so bouldering is basically climbing boulders without using ropes or climbing gear. The only safety net is a crash pad at the base of the boulder and your partner to spot you when you get a bit higher. Other equipment is a good pair of climbing shoes and chalk so your hands don't get sweaty and slippery. Bandaids for your fingers might be useful, too.I enjoy photography, constantly looking for that moment to capture whether it's a beautiful bride or phenomenal landscape. Located in the New Orleans Area, plantations and the French Quarter are my favorite places to shoot, but I can shoot anywhere... On-Location!
